Meet The Barber: Sait Koca
It goes without saying that when you visit an ADAM atelier, you're guaranteed to get a great haircut. In part, this is because our spaces draw on the deep history, culture and artistry of the Turkish Hamams, which have been the gold standard in grooming for centuries. But it's also because we are dedicated to finding and recruiting the best barbers from around the world. Whether you're looking for a classic hot towel shave or a modern skin fade, there's a man behind one of our chairs who can create an experience tailored to you. To help you pick, here's a Q&A with Sait, Master Barber at our London Bridge Atelier on everything from styling tricky hair to becoming a barber yourself.
Please introduce yourself
My name is Sait Koca, Master Barber if our London Bridge Atelier and Chief Staff for the entire group. My main role is sourcing and training new and existing barbers in the ADAM way. Our customers come back because of the quality cuts, so I make it my duty to ensure every barber is keeping up to our high standards.
I know you are mainly based in London Bridge, what do you like most about that part of london?
It's an amazing place, so vibrant, for me its the centre of London, the vibe is great.
What do you love most about the job?
Making guys feel good about themselves. I honestly think barbering is an art form, and coming into work every day and being encouraged to be creative just makes it so easy. You know what they say, do what you love and you will never work a day in your life, and that's me!
What's the worst bit about the job?
Where shall I start... ha ha. Standing up all day can take can take its toll, but the rewards are much greater.
Tell us an interesting fact about yourself?
I am a perfectionist, I see the details that others cant. A blessing and a curse some may say.
What's one grooming tip you always tell men?
Simplicity, don't over complicate things. Hair, clothes, anything, you don't want to the style to wear you.
How do you get the best out of your team?
By motivating them, training them and making them feel like they are part of the family.
What are three products you can't live without?
Matte Clay, I like to reshape my hair throughout the day and the clay offers a flexible hold which allows for a restyle.
Moisturiser, every man needs a moisturiser, but not all of us know that just yet!
Shampoo and conditioner, to get that product out of your hair. I am biased, but the ADAM Grooming Collection is really great, it smells amazing and doesn't leave you with any build up.
What's your advice for becoming a barber?
Do it if you are passionate about it. It's a great industry to be in and lends itself to the creative types.
What product do you think every man should have?
Moisturiser, as I mentioned earlier, I don't think all men know this yet. Preferably our Daily Moisturiser, it has so many uses hands, face, hair...
What do you think the key hairstyles if 2021 will be?
Casual, owing to lockdown we have seen people either come in for a short sharp cut or go complexity the other way and want to keep the length.
